The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) released survey data on October 9, 2026, indicating that UK investors are less likely to recognize pressure tactics in investment promotions. The survey found that only 36% of respondents were cautious about 'last chance to buy' investment opportunities.
The survey was conducted by Attest on behalf of the FCA and included 666 respondents aged 18 to 40 who own or are considering investments. The findings show that while 65% recognized pressure signs in horror films, only 5% were suspicious of pressure from rising investment price graphs.
The FCA's InvestSmart campaign aims to educate consumers about these tactics. The campaign includes tools like the Hype Type Revealer, which has shown to reduce high-risk investment decisions by 34.9% among retail investors.
The FCA encourages compliance teams in crypto and fintech firms to integrate these findings into their educational resources and marketing strategies to raise awareness about investment pressure tactics.
