The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that cryptoasset firms can now apply for authorisation or vary their existing permissions. This change is effective from 30 September 2026, and applications must be submitted via the FCA's Connect system.

The FCA relies on the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2026, which were made by Parliament on 4 February 2026. The new regime is expected to come into force on 25 October 2027.

This announcement applies to cryptoasset service providers (CASPs) that wish to operate under the new regulatory framework in the UK.

Firms must submit their applications by the deadline of 30 September 2026. The FCA has also hosted webinars to assist firms in understanding the requirements and processes involved in obtaining authorisation.
