ESMA published its 2027 Annual Work Programme on 28 September 2026. The programme outlines priorities aimed at strengthening and simplifying EU capital markets, including advancing supervision of crypto-asset service providers under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation.
The Work Programme is guided by ESMA's multi-annual strategy for 2023-2028. It marks a shift from preparation to the delivery of major initiatives, including the implementation of the European Single Access Point and the transition to T+1 settlement.
The initiatives apply to crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) and other entities involved in EU capital markets. ESMA aims to enhance supervisory convergence and cooperation with National Competent Authorities in overseeing CASPs under MiCA.
ESMA did not specify any deadlines or transitional periods in the Work Programme. The focus remains on delivering key initiatives and improving compliance with the Digital Operational Resilience Act across its supervisory mandates.
The Work Programme indicates that ESMA will continue to modernize its supervisory approach through greater use of data and technology, ensuring EU capital markets remain efficient and resilient.
