ESMA has launched a Call for Evidence regarding the potential use of tokenised collateral by central counterparties (CCPs) on 9 October 2026. The document seeks insights on the conditions for safe and effective use of tokenised collateral in central clearing processes.
The Call for Evidence is part of the MiCA regime. It aims to gather information on how tokenisation may affect the transfer, management, protection, and use of collateral throughout its lifecycle.
The initiative applies to central counterparties (CCPs) and relevant firms involved in collateral management, including crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) and payment institutions.
Stakeholders must submit their contributions by 15 January 2027. This deadline is crucial for informing ESMA's understanding of tokenisation's impact on financial markets.
