CSSF Updates MiCA Regulations for Crypto-Asset Service Providers

The CSSF has updated its documentation on the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), impacting CASPs and token issuers with new requirements and deadlines.

The CSSF has proposed updates to the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) on 22 July 2026. These updates require compliance with new regulatory technical standards and guidelines for crypto-asset service providers and issuers.

The updates rely on MiCAR (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114), specifically addressing requirements for preventing market abuse and cooperation between authorities.

The updates apply to crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) and issuers of asset-referenced tokens (ART) and e-money tokens (EMT).

Entities must comply with the new regulations by 30 June 2024 for certain provisions and by 30 December 2024 for others. Issuers of ARTs may continue operations under transitional arrangements until 30 June 2024, while no similar arrangements exist for EMTs.

The CSSF will provide further guidance on practical implications and procedures resulting from MiCA, urging entities to initiate preliminary dialogues for authorisation submissions.
